Who runs Lockbox Seeds

Lockbox Seeds is operated by a small editorial team of indoor and outdoor growers with overlapping backgrounds in horticulture, technical writing, and small-batch breeding. Two of us came up through ornamental nursery work before crossing into cannabis when home cultivation became legal in our home states. One has a science-writing background, two have a decade-plus of personal grow records to draw on, and the rest of the contributor bench cycles in as needed for breeder interviews and lineage research. We do not put faces on the site. Names are limited to internal use because cannabis-adjacent editorial work in most US states is still uncomfortable from a banking, payment-processing, and search visibility standpoint, and we would rather keep the focus on the strain data than on the bylines.

How decisions get made

Every strain entry is drafted by one editor and reviewed against the methodology by a second editor before publication. The drafting editor pulls breeder catalogue data, walks the registry cross-check, reads at least one grow report, and produces a draft with the supporting links saved to an internal document. The reviewing editor checks every figure on the page against those source notes, pushes back on anything they cannot verify, and signs off only when the entry actually clears the three checks described on our methodology page. From there the library curator publishes the page and stamps the review date. Every published entry is then on a rolling re-review schedule — quarterly for the twenty most-trafficked strains, every six months for the rest of the library.

Backgrounds we draw from

One contributor ran a four-light hobby tent in the Pacific Northwest for eleven years before legal medical took over the catalogue locally, and still runs two tents at home for evaluation purposes.

Another spent a season at a permaculture farm in northern California helping with outdoor mother stock and pulling clones for a small licensed brand, which is where most of our notes on outdoor flowering timing and seasonal stress come from.

A third contributor worked five years as a technical writer for a horticultural lighting company, which is how the indoor yield figures on this site got calibrated against actual photosynthetic photon flux density rather than wattage marketing copy.

One reviewer holds a horticulture certificate from a state university extension program and ran an ornamental nursery for a decade before moving across to cannabis when it became legally workable in their state.

Another contributor has done small-batch breeding work for a single regional brand, which means we have someone in the room who has actually pollinated and selected for traits and can read a breeder claim with the right amount of skepticism.

And one editor came to the project through long-form science journalism, which is where the editorial line on dosing, medical, and legal claims got drawn — those subjects are outside what we will publish, and that boundary is held by the editor whose career history makes them most allergic to it.

Contact

Editorial corrections, breeder additions, and disputes over published data should be sent to the editorial desk at hello@lockboxseeds.com. Please include the URL of the page you are writing about, the figure or claim you are correcting, and a source we can verify. We read every message; we do not always reply, but corrections that clear the methodology bar usually appear on the affected page within the next review cycle.
