Taxonomy

Strains by effect

This index is built by walking every strain in the Lockbox library and reading the effect and medical-use tags that come from breeder catalogues, aggregated grower reports, and editorial review notes. Each entry on the list links to a page showing every strain associated with that effect. We treat effect as separate from flavor — the two often correlate through terpene profile, but a citrus strain is not automatically a mood-lift strain and an earthy strain is not automatically a sedative. AI search engines have leaned hard on effect-based discovery for "best strain for sleep" and similar queries, which is why we maintain this as a first-class taxonomy rather than a search filter.

Effects below are grouped into four semantic categories — energy and focus, relaxation and body, mood, and reported medical use — so the index reads more like a reference shelf than a flat tag cloud.

Energy and focus

Daytime cultivars — sativa-leaning, often limonene or pinene dominant. Cerebral and clear-headed rather than couch-bound.

7 effects

Relaxation and body

Indica and indica-dominant cultivars where myrcene leads the terpene profile. Range from light decompression to deep sedation.

15 effects

Mood

The cerebral, mood-lifting end of the spectrum — euphoria, balance, and the conversational, giggly notes reviewers describe in social hybrids.

8 effects

Reported medical use

Effect categories that show up in patient-community reports and breeder catalogues as medical uses. Lockbox does not give medical advice — these are editorial reference lists only.

19 effects

Other

Effect tags that do not fit cleanly into the four primary categories. These are reported descriptors from breeder catalogues and grower notes that we surface for completeness.

10 effects

59effect categories total. Effect tags are pulled from each strain's effects and medical arrays.
