Strain family

Chem family cannabis strains

The Chem family begins with the Chemdawg cut, a clone-only line said to have been popped from seed at a 1991 Grateful Dead show by a grower remembered only as "Dog Bud" — the apocryphal lineage points to Nepalese and Thai sativa parents brought west during the touring scene. Chemdawg became the genetic launchpad for both the OG Kush and Sour Diesel lines, which means almost every modern American hybrid sits within a few crosses of this single mother. Strains carrying direct Chem ancestry — Chemdawg itself, Gorilla Glue #4 (via Chem's Sister and Sour Dubb), and the broader Diesel family — share a recognizable sharp gas, sour citrus, and pine terpene signature. Chem-family plants tend to grow tall and lanky with long flowering windows of nine to eleven weeks and respond well to training that opens up the canopy. The high is heavy, narcotic, and unmistakably loud, which is why the Chem line still anchors high-end legal markets three decades after it first dropped.
