Kush family cannabis strains
Kush is the oldest named family in modern cannabis, taking its name from the Hindu Kush mountain range straddling Afghanistan and northern Pakistan where the landrace progenitors grew wild for centuries. Brought west during the hippie trail era of the 1970s, Afghani and Hindu Kush seedlines anchored almost every indica breeding program that followed and gave the world its first reliable short, resin-heavy, fast-finishing plants. The American Kush line — OG Kush, Bubba Kush, Master Kush, and their descendants — emerged in California and Florida during the 1990s and pushed the family toward the gassy, piney, sour citrus terpene profile growers now associate with the word. Plants in this family typically finish in seven to nine weeks of flower, stay compact with stout side branching, and produce dense, lumpy buds dripping in resin. Kush genetics also form the structural backbone of the modern Cookies, OG, and Purple families, which is why so many Lockbox strains touch this line somewhere in their ancestry.
